Etsy is a website that provides the general public with a way to buy and sell handmade items as well as vintage items and craft supplies. Handmade items cover a wide range including art, photography, clothing, jewelry, edibles, bath & beauty products, and toys. The site follows in the tradition of open craft fairs, giving sellers personal storefronts where they list their goods for a fee. It has been compared to "a crafty cross between Amazon and eBay", and to "your grandma's basement". Etsy was founded by Rob Kalin, Chris Maguire, Haim Schoppik and Jared Tarbell in June, 2005. The site maintains a blog for discussion and networking. They also support "street teams", groups of Etsy sellers affiliated by location or interest that work together to promote their team members.
It costs 20 cents to list an item for four months on Etsy. When your item sells, you’ll pay a 3.5% transaction fee.
Krafter's Korner on Homestead Exchange network is just about to be launched. There will be a yearly fee for members of Homestead Exchange Network to open a store but then no other fees will be charged. This is one of my favorite websites anyway, and the personal involvement there will make this a must check out for anyone.
YabbleBabble is an online craft mall that you can get in by approval only. It takes a straight 12% out of your sales and collects the shipping information and money upfront.
Lily's Country Crafts Mall charges $10.00 a month for you to list your crafts with them.
You can also advertise on sites such as your local Craigslist
You can also set up your own website. The initial outlay will be a bit more than with other methods but if you have a good product and a good understanding of search engine optimization then this is probably the best way to start.
