Bridges of Greene County
Who used to decide on the safety of bridges in Greene County? In 1914, county court judges and surveyors inspected several bridges for needed repairs and replacements.

The members of the county court, Judges W. H. Gorsuch, W. H. Perkins and John Cowell, County surveyor John R. McAfee, and Harry Schmook and F.A. Marshall spent yesterday inspecting bridges in Greene county which either now are undergoing repairs or will be repaired in the near future.
Two steel bridges which were damaged by heavy rains in September will require a considerable amount of work to place them in their original condition. One which spans the Pomme de Terre River five miles east of Fair Grove was swept 2000 yards down stream by the swollen waters; the other, two and one-half miles north of Fair Grove lost its south approach by the same flood.
Other bridges which soon will be restored to
a safe and serviceable condition are the Galloway bridge and the bridge at Ingram Ford, both crossing the James river, the Edgar bridge, east of Republic, across Wilson Creek and the Crystal Cave and Bolivar Road bridges, both over the Sac.
