Did Grandpa Have an FBI File?
Sullivan's article in The Washington Post focuses on a press release from a nonprofit organization called Governmentattic.org which allows access to hundreds of Federal Government documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act.
Copies of FBI files for specific individuals may be requested under the Freedom of Information Act simply by writing to the FBI. The file requested must be of a deceased individual or personally requested by a living individual. The free web sites Get Grandpa's FBI File or Get My FBI File and the FBI's own web site can help with making such requests. The FBI charges copying fees of $0.10 per page for files more than 100 pages; files less than 100 pages are free.
