Buried treasure
Interesting discovery on the farm of J. M. Greer, from the Springfield Leader Democrat, April 19, 1899 page 1.
"J. M. Greer, a pioneer farmer, living four miles southwest of the city is mystified over a buried treasure which his plow unearthed this morning while turning over the soil in one of his fields.
"Farmer Greer struck the remnants of a rust eaten bucket in which was a large lot of Mexican silver, most of the coin being of the one dollar denomination. Mr. Greer came to the city to report his discovery. He is at a loss to understand how the silver happened to be buried on his farm. The coins are very old."
