"A Taste for Belize" Author to Talk at Brentwood Branch Library March 30

Whitney Taylor Shaw set off on a trip with Missouri State University as a student to study agriculture in Belize and returned with a “tropical travelogue.”

Now the journal she kept along the way has been published as “A Taste for Belize,” which Shaw will read and discuss for the public from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, at Brentwood Branch Library, 2214 Brentwood Blvd. She will also sell and sign copies of her new book, by Tate Publishing.

“A Taste for Belize” is a look into the classroom of studying abroad. Shaw writes about the experiences everyone has in a world that is totally different from their own. As an agriculture class that applied to nutrition students as well, the students visited places that they had never before seen in the United States. The book takes the reader on the students’ adventures and the eye openers they experience.

Shaw grew up in Bentonville, Ark., and Springfield, Mo. While attending MSU in Springfield, she volunteered at Ozarks Food Harvest and wrote newsletter issues for the Kid’s Café programs. Shaw says it was there she found her true passion in helping people through the power of food.

Shaw still loves to travel. She currently lives in Buffalo, N.Y., and attends Missouri State University long distance, studying English and nutrition. “A Taste for Belize” is her first book.
