Looking For New Online Places to Search For Your Ancestors?

At last weeks opening of the National Genealogical Society's annual meeting in Salt Lake City, Jay Verker, president of Family Search, announced that 300 million more names would be released by the organization the week of 25 April 2010.

The release is the result of work completed by individuals working on their home computers as a part of the Worldwide Indexing Project. The names can be searched for free on a newly created  website.  Besides searching for records, you can volunteer to join the 87, 500 plus indexers working on the project.

Releases of names will continue, since the goal is to index all of the estimated 3.5 billion names on microfilm stored in the granite mountain vaults outside of Salt Lake City within 10 years.

Your local Springfield-Greene County Library can help with your genealogical searches.
