Database Reaches 100,000 DNA Samples.

The Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation (SMGF), a non-profit scientific organization with the world's largest collection of correlated genetic and genealogical information, made the above announcement during April's National Genealogical Society Family History Conference in Salt Lake City.

The SMGF database is also the world’s most diverse collection of genetic information, with samples from more than 170 nations. The collections include remote villages in South and Central America where the descendants of the Incan, Mayan, Aztec and Toltec empires live; Mennonite populations in the U.S. and Mexico; rich sample sets from China, Singapore, Micronesia, Nepal, Kyrgystan and the Mongolian steppes; and samples from every African and European nation.

In 2007, SMGF launched, GeneTree, a wholly owned subsidiary that offers services designed to help users discover family connections in the last six to 10 generations.  Both GeneTree and SMGF enable individuals, who may have DNA results from other companies, to input DNA results and search the databases.
