Summer Reading Programs for All Ages at Library

Summer reading comes with all kinds of rewards for kids, teens and this year -- adults, too – during the Springfield-Greene County Libraries’ annual Summer Reading Program May 22 through August 7.

The annual program encourages children and teens to continue reading through the summer to keep their skills sharp and their imaginations active. The more children and teens read, the better readers they become. And the more that adults read to “pre-readers,” the more easily they learn to read.

The Summer Reading Club makes it fun by offering incentives for eager readers all summer.

Children and teens can pick up an official game board at any of the 10 branch libraries or the bookmobile. They win a prize every time they complete a required number of reading hours and activities. The most popular prize is the Food ‘n’ Fun Flipcard, which offers free or discounted items and admission offers from 34 businesses in Springfield and Greene County.

Kids can also attend a dozen fun, wacky and educational live performances or presentations at many of the library branches, including “Nitro Joe’s Science Show” and the “Fishin’ Magicians.”
