What is the Funding Information Center?

The Springfield-Greene County Library's Funding Information Center is located at the Library Center. The Center is a treasure house of information for nonprofit organizations researching grantmakers. A variety of materials in the collection profile the charitable giving interests of grantmakers, as well as provide helpful tips on grant writing and nonprofit organization management. In addition, digital copies of tax returns are available for viewing.

The Funding Information Center is open for use during normal Library hours and Reference Department staff are available to assist with questions.

The Funding Information Center is a Cooperating Collection associated with The Foundation Center of New York City, which publishes materials profiling the giving interests of the more than 90,000 foundations in the United States. Springfield-Greene County Library is one of five Foundation Center Cooperating Collections in Missouri. Nationwide, more than three hundred Cooperating Collections are open to the public.

Government Grants

The Library's Funding Information Center has some amount of information concerning government grants. The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance, which is available online or as a print resource, is a complete listing of authorized federal assistance programs. 

Reference staff can show researchers additional materials located elsewhere in the Library Center's collection that will be of interest to them.

Grants to Individuals

The Funding Information Center has a limited amount of information concerning grants to individuals. Persons seeking grants for themselves should begin by using the Foundation Center's Guide to Funding Research for the individual. 

The Funding Information Center also provides access to Foundation Grants to Individuals Online, a database of more than 6,500 foundation and public charity programs that fund students, artists, researchers, and other individual grantseekers.  This database is only available in the Funding Information Center at the Library Center.

Foundation Directory Online Professional

Be sure to try out Foundation Directory Online Professional.  Updated weekly, this grantseeking research tool from the Foundation Center includes over 90,000 grantmakers and 900,000 grants. You can also search across over 380,000 form 990s from private foundations, community foundations, and grantmaking public charities.  This database is intended for use by the nonprofit patron and is available only at the Library Center.
