Is there an astronomical observatory near Springfield?

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Southwest Missouri State University manages Baker Observatory, located near Marshfield in Webster County, MO.

To get to the observatory, drive east on I-44 to Marshfield. From there, go approximately 8.5 miles on Route 38 to Hillcrest Road. Turn left onto Hillcrest Road, and drive one mile to the observatory gate. Park on Hillcrest Road and walk to the observatory. Visitors are advised to bring a flashlight, as it can be quite dark. Information about special viewings offered to the general public during the wear may be found on the observatory web site.
