Early Missouri Land Records are the subject of "Early settlers of Missouri as taken from land claims in the Missouri Territory" by Walter Lowrie, the Local History and Genealogy Department.

Deed records are filed at the county level with the Recorder of Deeds office of the particular county. In addition, there are a number of plat books available for various Southwest Missouri counties in the Local History and Genealogy Department, or through the Greene County Archives and Records Center.

Another source of information is the Bureau of Land Management’s General Land Office Records web site, which provides live access to Federal land conveyance records for the Public Land States. The site also provide image access to more than two million Federal land title records for Eastern Public Land States, issued between 1820 and 1908. Please note that the site does not currently contain every Federal title record issued for the Public Land States. Visitors may search on line Federal Land Patents Databases, or may request certified copies of land patents either electronically or by mail.
