The Old Settler’s Picnic was held on the Horton Farm every 4^th of July from about 1917 or 1918 until 1957. About 100 people always attended the picnic, which was in later years known as the “4^th of July Picnic”. Mr. Horton died in October, 1957.

The Horton Farm was located on the James River east of Springfield.
