What was the Old Settler’s Picnic?

The Old Settler’s Picnic was held on the Horton Farm every 4th of July from about 1917 or 1918 until 1957. About 100 people always attended the picnic, which was in later years known as the “4th of July Picnic”. Mr. Horton died in October, 1957.

The Horton Farm was located on the James River east of Springfield.
