What was the Young Brothers Massacre?

“January 2, 1932 became a dim day in the history of the Greene County Sheriff's Office. It was on this day, Sheriff Marcell Hendrix was killed, along with Deputy Sheriff Wiley Mashburn, and Springfield Police Officers, Chief Detective Tony Oliver, Detective Sidney Meadows, Officer Charles Houser, and Officer Oliver R. Crosswhite.

The officers were attempting to arrest Harry Young, long wanted for the murder of Republic City Marshal Mark Noe when the gunfight erupted. When the shooting was over, the six law enforcement officers lay dead or dying at the rural Brookline Missouri home.

The suspects Harry Young and Jennings Young had fled from the location and were later found dead from gunshot wounds inflicted in a murder/suicide in Houston, Texas. To this day, this incident still holds the tragic record for the most law enforcement officers killed in one incident.”
