Learning to Read

An entire world begins to open for young children as they break the code of the written word and learn to read. Check out our resource guide, First Early Readers, to learn about book series and online sites that can help your new reader learn about the sounds, structure and sight words that lead to strong reading skills.

Be sure to check with any of our children’s librarians to learn more about helping your child gain early literacy skills.

Take a StoryWalk

Get some exercise and enjoy a fun picture book while you walk. The Library has partnered with agencies across the county to provide StoryWalks along their trails and walkways for families and their children from birth to third grade. Families can read a book -- posted page by page on separate sign posts -- while they enjoy the trail. Details about locations and kickoff events for each book are located here.
