Margaret Peterson Haddix grew up on a farm and graduated from college with degrees in journalism, creative writing and history. Prior to writing her first book, she worked as a newspaper copy editor, a newspaper reporter, a community college instructor and a freelance writer.

She has since written more than 20 books for kids and teens, including the soon to be released Torn, the fourth installment in "The Missing" series.
