Clare Vanderpool lives in Wichita, Kansas, about four blocks from where she grew up. She has degrees in English and elementary education, but says she has wanted to be a writer since fifth grade.

She has always been an avid reader, and that coupled with fond childhood memories and a lot of imagination, resulted in her first book, Moon Over Manifest, which just won the 2011 Newbery Award!
