Brian Selznick was born in New Jersey and graduated from college with a degree in design. After college, he worked at a children's book store in New York City, where he learned all about children's books and painted the windows for holidays and book events.

Brian has used that background to write and illustrate a number of children's books, including the popular Invention of Hugo Cabret
