DISCLAIMER
The Library points to the Web sites of reputable organizations that list links to sites that are of educational value or especially geared towards children. However, we cannot guarantee the suitability of the individual links at these sites for your child.
OUR COMMITMENT TO CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Protecting the privacy of children is especially important to us. Due to the ease with which children can divulge personal information on the Internet as well as the possibility of inadvertently bringing up inappropriate sites, we urge parents to supervise their children's use of the Internet. Information collected by the Springfield-Greene County Library is not shared with any other agency or organization, unless required by law.
THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT

This notice applies to all information collected or submitted on the Springfield-Greene County Library web site. On some pages you can place holds on materials, make comments, ask questions, access databases and manage your Library account. The types of personal information that may be collected at these pages are:

  • Name
  • E-mail address
  • Phone number
  • Library card number (used for placing a hold, access to your library account and access to Library databases)
THE WAY WE USE THIS INFORMATION

We do not share information collected on our web site with outside parties.

We use e-mail addresses to respond to the e-mail we receive. We also send hold and overdue notices to patons who have given us their e-mail address for that purpose and occasionally to alert customers to new services they may want to use. Such addresses are not used for any other purpose and are not shared with outside parties.

We use non-identifying and aggregate information to better design our web site. For example, we may let it be known publicly that a specific number of individuals visited a certain area on our web site, but we would not disclose anything that could be used to identify those individuals.

We will never disclose a child's personal information such as full name, address, etc. ("information that would facilitate or enable the physical or online locating and contacting of a specific individual") without written approval from a parent or legal guardian. In accordance with Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) we will only display a child's first name and age on our site to announce contest winners and display customer-submitted comments.

Finally, we never use or share the personally identifiable information provided to us online in ways unrelated to the ones described above without also providing you an opportunity to prohibit such unrelated uses. If law enforcement agents in the course of an investigation request library records, the library may be required by law to release records pertaining to your activities at the library.

UNATTENDED CHILD POLICY
For their safety and well-being, children 8 years old or younger must be accompanied by a responsible adult, a parent, guardian, teacher or assigned caregiver 17 years old or older.
