Wild Bob's is a unique group of singers and songwriters that performs music based on books. From Dr. Seuss to Mo Willems, little ones will enjoy rocking and rolling to favorite picture books brought to life in music performed by Brett Johnson and Earl Holmer. Join us for a playdate filled with unstructured, developmentally appropriate activities for babies, toddlers and preschoolers; where kids and parents can visit, play and socialize. You'll find fun activities you can recreate at home and enjoy some of our special toys.

Library Center - "Now You See Them, Now You Don't" New Poems by David L. Harrison

3 p.m. in the auditorium for all ages.
Springfield-based author and poet David Harrison’s latest book, "Now You See Them, Now You Don't," features animals that use their natural camouflage to hide or to hunt. David will be joined by staff and volunteers from Springfield's Dickerson Park Zoo with animal ambassadors who are masters of camouflage. Student guests will join David to read from his book and read their own poems inspired by "Now You See Them, Now You Don't." Children are invited to preview of some of David’s poems at thelibrary.org/poems, write a poem or draw a picture inspired by David's work, and bring them to the event. Student work will be displayed at the Library Center that week.

Library Center - Exploring Human Ancestry: Hands-On Family Activities

What skeletal features enable our upright, bipedal walking? How do features of our legs and pelvis differ from those of apes, who don’t usually walk upright? Take some time for a fun, educational family experience to see how we know what we know from the human fossil record. Join faculty and students from Missouri State University's Departments Sociology and Anthropology to compare fossil casts of early members of the human family with those of modern humans and of our closest living relatives, the chimpanzees. Hands-on activities allow you to interpret similarities and differences of members of the genus Australopithecus compared to those of our genus, Homo. An Exploring Human Origins event.

It’s a pony party at the Library Station! We’ll have REAL LIVE MINIATURE PONIES courtesy of Plenty Pony Ranch and the Valley Water Mill Park Equestrian Center, plus tons of pony activities like stick-horse races, real saddles to try out, information on taking care of ponies and horses, a lasso roping station and, of course, pony stories! All activities will take place in the south parking lot. A parent/guardian signature is required to pet the ponies.


Willard Branch Library - STEAM Play Saturday

2-5 p.m. for grades K-12.
STEAM play encourages logical mathematical thinking, scientific reasoning, creative problem solving and an appreciation for the interconnectedness of these disciplines in relationship to art. We’ll supply LEGO bricks, Raspberry Pis, simple circuits and other materials – just bring your imagination!


Library Center - Explore Primitive Cave Art

3-5 p.m. in the Story Hour Room for all ages.
Enjoy an exhibit of original cave art created by children in our community. Children from kindergarten-grade 5 were challenged to imagine themselves in the Old Stone Age, with no access to printed language, photography, paper or pencil. How would they share their stories about important events, major conquests, great hunts or even their own existence? The library will provide flashlights so exhibit-goers can explore the Story Hour Room-turned-cave to discover and enjoy this art experience. An Exploring Human Origins event.
