Scientists have discovered art in caves created by early humans almost 40,000 years ago, during the Paleolithic Period. Imagine living in that time, before written language existed. How would you record the important events in your life? How would you share your memories and stories? Explore early human art and create your own images to tell your story. Materials will be provided. An exhibit of your art will be on display from 3-5 p.m. the next day, Saturday, May 14, in the Story Hour Room. An Exploring Human Origins event.

Library Center - Discover Cave Painting

10:30 a.m.-noon in the Story Hour Room for grades K-2.
Early humans in the Old Stone Age used art to help them tell stories, remember events and signify important occasions. We’ve transformed the Story Hour Room into a cave so you can share your stories using art, just like cave families did. Materials will be provided. An exhibit of your art will be on display in the "cave" from 3-5 p.m. on the same day, Saturday, May 14. An Exploring Human Origins event.


Midtown Carnegie Branch Library - World Travelers

Library Station - Pony Party!

1-2:30 p.m. for all ages.
It’s a pony party at the Library Station! We’ll have REAL LIVE MINIATURE PONIES courtesy of Plenty Pony Ranch and the Valley Water Mill Park Equestrian Center, plus tons of pony activities like stick-horse races, real saddles to try out, information on taking care of ponies and horses, a lasso roping station and, of course, pony stories! All activities will take place in the south parking lot. A parent/guardian signature is required to pet the ponies.


Willard Branch Library - STEAM Play Saturday

2-5 p.m. for grades K-12.
STEAM play encourages logical mathematical thinking, scientific reasoning, creative problem solving and an appreciation for the interconnectedness of these disciplines in relationship to art. We’ll supply LEGO bricks, Raspberry Pis, simple circuits and other materials – just bring your imagination!


Library Center - Explore Primitive Cave Art

3-5 p.m. in the Story Hour Room for all ages.
Enjoy an exhibit of original cave art created by children in our community. Children from kindergarten-grade 5 were challenged to imagine themselves in the Old Stone Age, with no access to printed language, photography, paper or pencil. How would they share their stories about important events, major conquests, great hunts or even their own existence? The library will provide flashlights so exhibit-goers can explore the Story Hour Room-turned-cave to discover and enjoy this art experience. An Exploring Human Origins event.
