A part-time "Summer Reading to Go" Temporary Outreach Youth Assistant position is available in the Outreach Services Department at the Library Center. This is a grant-funded, part-time, temporary position. Applicants must be available to work Monday through Friday, primarily days, and one evening per week (Tuesday or Thursday) required during the summer. This position will work approximately 5 hours per week March 25-May 17, 2013, to assist with summer program preparations, and increase to 30 hours per week for 12 weeks, May 20-August 9, 2013. As a condition of employment, work schedules may change as necessary to best provide user services and to meet the Library’s responsibility to the citizens of Greene County. This position also requires a source of reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and proof of vehicle insurance, as daily use of a personal vehicle is necessary. Mileage reimbursement will be provided. The positions pay $9.45 per hour and will be posted until the application deadline of March 15.

Essential Functions

• Plans and implements children’s story times and other summer reading program activities for children at day-camps, summer school programs, and assists with programs for all ages at other off-site locations.
  
• Assists in preparing program materials that will be used during the summer. This will be done primarily March 25-May 17, 2013.
  
• Ability to work with elementary-age children and their childcare providers, as well as with teens and adults, in a cooperative, pleasant and constructive manner.
  
• Performs computer data searches, data entry, word-processing, spreadsheet construction, basic file-keeping and clerical activities.
  
• Completes reports and correspondence as requested.

Education/Experience

• Minimum 60 college credit hours in a related field.
  
• Experience working with elementary-age children.

Skills/Job Knowledge

• Excellent communications skills, oral and written.
  
• Demonstrates artistic and creative ability in the production of children's programming.
  
• Working knowledge of children's literature and age appropriate materials.

Supervision

• Supervised by Outreach Services Manager.

Physical Demands

• Performs bending, squatting, kneeling and reaching from floor level to 6 feet in height.
  
• Displays good coordination and mobility.
  
• Routine lifting of library materials weighing up to 35 lbs.
  
• Indoor and outdoor work environments.

Other Requirements

• Timeliness: Since adherence to a strict schedule is mandatory, the Youth Assistant must be prompt and timely in arriving to work and completing tasks.
