Gift Shop Volunteer

The Library is currently seeking volunteers to work the following shifts in the Between Friends Gift Shops located at the Library Center and Library Station:

The Library Center:
Current, ongoing need as of November 14, 2014

  • Mondays: 5-8:30 p.m.
  • Saturdays: 4 or 5 p.m.-8:30 p.m.

The Library Station:
Current, ongoing need as of November 14, 2014

  • Fridays: 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Multiple volunteers can be used to fill these time slots, but an ongoing commitment is preferred.
Floaters or On Call Substitutes for either location are also needed.

Essential Functions

  • Provide friendly customer service
  • Check out customer purchases using a calculator, apply simple discounts, and make change
  • Work with accuracy, consistency, and dependability
  • Minimal stocking and pricing
  • Assist customers with selections and purchases
  • Abide by the Library's General Conduct Policy
  • Timeliness: Since employees in this position work with other staff and provide assistance to the general public who patronize the Library, punctuality and timeliness in arriving to work and completing tasks is important.
  • Ability to work with others and the general public: It is essential that individuals who work in this position have the ability to work and interact in a cooperative, pleasant and constructive manner with others.


  • Routine contact with library patrons and staff


  • Supervised by Gift Shop Assistant Manager/Volunteer Coordinator

Physical Demands

  • Performs minimal bending, squatting, kneeling and reaching (no heavy lifting)
  • Performs daily tasks requiring mobility, coordination and endurance

Working Environment

  • Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general library environment
