The railroad depot at Strafford, Missouri used by the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway Company. When the Frisco Railroad was built into Greene County in 1870 that company joined with the late John McCabe and located a town in Sections 3 & 4, in Township 29 N, Range 20 West and named it Strafford. The first store was kept by John Dunn, in 1870, who was the first postmaster.
Soon after Dunn’s store was established,
John Teverbaugh, a colored man, opened a blacksmith shop, the first in the place. Strafford was named for Strafford, Conn. (—Fairbanks & Tuck, Vol. 1, p. 209; Holcombe, p. 908.)
