Volume 1, Number 11 - Spring 1964

Society News

We are indebted to Mr. W. E. FREELAND who has loaned the Society a very expensive machine, a Vari-typer, to use for setting copy for the Quarterly. Mr. Freeland is a Charter member as well as having been voted an Honorary membership at the last annual meeting. We wish to express our deep appreciation for this latest example of his generosity.

The Society's secretary, ELMO INGENTHRON, addressed the March meeting of the Civil War Round Table of the Ozarks, of which he is a member. His subject was "The Upper White River Valley--No Man's Land of the Civil War in the West". The Civil War Round Table was organized at the beginning of the Civil War centennial with several chapters throughout the country. Society Member MARVIN E. TONG of Lawton, Oklahoma, was one of the organizers. The monthly meetings are devoted to the study of some phase of Civil War history. Also this spring, Mr. Ingenthron has spoken at meetings of the Branson Rotary Club and the Forsyth Chapter of the American Legion. During the winter, he addressed the Taney hills Library Club, the Methodist Men's Club and the Branson Lions Club on the subject of local history.

Coming in future issues....The story of the development of Hollister, Mo., from 1906 to 1930. The history is being written by Mr. WILL W. JOHNSON of Springfield and Hollister whose father was the founder and developer of Hollister.... A history of Protem, Mo., is being compiled, and there will be more about "Customs and Traditions" by MARY SCOTT HAIR, ROY E. STOUT, F. J. (Doc) WOODS, and others.
