Mr. and Mrs. Steve Burton

Mr. and Mrs. Steve Burton on their Golden Wedding Anniver sary, November 11, 1958. The photograph on the left shows the Burtons when they were players with the Ted Nestell show in 1918.

Stephen (Steve) Burton was born at Cottage Grove, Oregon, in 1887. He married Florence (Flossie) Henry in 1908. She was born in Mather, Wis consin, in 1886. They have one son, Stephen, who lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Mr. and Mrs. Burton were vaudeville actors and traveled with the Ted Nestell Show at the time they were first persuaded to come to Rockaway Beach by Ted Nestell and his wife, Edythe. The Burtons were impressed by the loveliness of the beautiful area and decided to buy a little house then owned by Mrs. Boyland on the hill in the west section of what is now Rockaway Beach. They planned to use the house as a fishing camp and a place to rest up between shows. Mrs. Boyland died and her heirs sold the house to Mr. and Mrs. Burton for $150.00.

Off and on through the years the Burtons came to Rockaway Beach until they decided to retire here in 1936, since which time they have been permanent residents, operating their own cottage court.
