Minutes of the Mincy Valley Baptist Church of Christ

1871 - 1885


(These minutes were copied by Eva B. Bruner, member, May, 1963 from the original minute book owned by Vineta Halsey, daughter of Creel Hopper, son of Clemon Hopper and wife, Isaphena Hopper).

At the meeting held in the Mincy Valley, Taney Co., Mo., on Saturday before the 3rd Sunday in November 1871 conducted by Elders A. Hopper, Hyrem Hollers and J. F. Brittain a part of the members of the Postook Grove Church of United Baptist who had been legally dismissed from said church by letter agreed to go into a constitution of an independent church at this place. Wherefore Eld. J. F. Brittain was chosen as moderator protem and Bro. Creel Hopper Clk. Pt. the names of those that went into the constitution were as follows:

Clemon Hopper, Hyrem Hollers, Elizabeth J. Hollers, Anderson Hopper, Mary Hopper, J. F. Brittain, Mary Brittain, John Hutchison, Creel Hopper, Sarah Hopper, Sarah Pruitt, Marion Hopper, J. J. Fortner, Malissa Fortner, James M. Hopper, Mary E. Hopper, Louisy Watts, Melvina Watts, Henrietta Laws, Noah Laws, George Brittam, Memery Brittain.

These Brethren and Sisters were permitted to constitute themselves into a church which we agree to call Mincy Valley. Constituting Prayer was offered by Elder A. Hopper after which a hymn was sung and the hand of fellowship extended. The newly constituted church then proceeded to business 1st by motion and second agreed that we adopt the foregoing rules of Decorem and Articles of Faith. 2nd by motion and second agreed that we hold our regular church meeting on Saturday before 3rd Sunday in each month.

On the following Sunday evening the church met for worship after which an opportunity was given for persons to unite with the church when Brother Francis Brittain came forward and was received by Relation. The meeting continued from day to day the following week. On Monday evening the invitation was given and Brother Calvin Parton, Harvey Brittain, George Bly, Issac Speer and Sister Nancy Speer, came forward and was rec’d by relation, and Aaron Hutchison was rec’d as candidate for baptism.

Tuesday the opportunity was still extended when Bro. John C. Speer was rec’d as candidate for baptism and Sister Sarah Speer was rec’d by letter, and Sister Tabitha Ridemore was rec’d by relation. Tuesday evening Bro. James Hutchison was rec’d as a candidate for baptism and Sister Nancy Hutchison and Elizabeth Laws was rec’d by relation.

Wednesday evening Sister Sarah Brittain was rec’d by relation and Sister Sintha Laws was rec’d as a candidate for baptism and Sister Tilphah T. Brittain was rec’d by letter. Friday evening Sister Melcina Brittain was rec’d as a candidate for baptism on the following Sunday after Devine Services the church repaired to the water where the ordinance of baptism was administered to Bros. Aaron Hutchison, James Hutchison and John C. Speer and Sisters Sintha Bly (was Laws) and Meldna Brittain.
