Andy Brown Moore, who was born in Taney County on February 8,1881, therefore, is evidently, a bit over eighty-five years young. He sent these pictures with the captions.
He also typed a story telling of one of his capers in 1916 or 1917 when he was cashier of the Bank of Hollister. He says:
"My cousin was running a livery barn in Hollister. And even at that early date, people were coming to Taney County wanting to see the Shepherd of the Hills Country. I had told my cousin, Johnny Moore, that some day when he had a hack load of tourists, I would drive for him free as I, too, wanted to see the country.
"The driver was supposed to be loaded with old history including that of the Bald Knobbers.
"I drove the hack this certain day, pointing out where Sammy Lane lived, etc., and I got by very well that day. But Johnny had another load for the second day and I was to drive again.
"I went another route and did not know that a lady in the group had been on the trip the day before. I was laying it off quite easily, telling the folks all about the different places, and coming to a cabin I was telling that the famous Sammy lived there, in fact was born there. The lady raised her hand and said in big letters, Mr. Moore, you said yesterday that that other cabin, of which I have a picture, was Sammy Lanes old home and birthplace. I managed to survive, but it sure was a problem."
