Sixth North Arkansas Ancestor Fair

If one is researching north Arkansas families or north Arkansas history, the Sixth North Arkansas Ancestor Fair is the place to be. On June 3, 1995, at the public school in Leslie, Ark., over 50 family and county historians will share their information with all comers. County societies in the area and small publishers of regional and family books will also be there to sell their wares. But most of all, it is a place to meet long lost kinfolk, hear local stories, do research in the area, and have fun.
The geographical boundary is the north central wedge of Arkansas centered on Searcy County, and cornered by Pope County in the south, Washington County in the northwest and Fulton/Independence counties on the northeast. The doors will open at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, June 3, to an array of Providers sitting at tables with their family histories and old pictures under signs identifying their families, ready to share the results of many years of research with all Gatherers. There will be a series of hour and a half sessions by senior consultants who specialize in community lore. There will be a bulletin board, for those who can’t attend, to post their family queries.
This entire experience can be free: entrance, table space, time with senior consultants, unless you get photocopies from the Fair’s copy machines, books and publications from the vendors, or come early and attend the Friday night mixer-dinner, in order to make contacts and start research early. It is a genealogical swap meet, a place to brag on ancestors, an opportunity to meet others researching the same families and to get back in the hills to visit old cemeteries and home places.
