Art For You and Me!
by Steve Miller

From World Archaeological Society Newsletter.

Anyone who utters that common complaint, "I lead such a drab life" can quickly quench the unpleasant illusion. The priceless cure, free to everyone and guaranteed to get results during any moment of our waking hours, is embodied in the phrase, "Open your eyes."

The magic of Art is present in everything we see, in everything we touch, and everything we make. The appreciation and pleasure to be experienced in everything is not reserved for just a few so-called experts or scholars in the realm of the Arts, even though this is a commonly held belief.

Those who have read widely of the many works on the subject of Art Appreciation soon note one common truth repeated significantly, Art, in good taste, is simple. The simple rules of Art, too often hidden in the mumbo of professional jargon, are surprisingly easy to understand -- as the simple and fascinating truth of Art unfolds.

While we are on the subject of misconceptions, we must first realize that Art is not just pictures, It covers practically everything and is therefore important to our existence.

The appreciation of paintings is a good beginning subject and one of the most interesting. When we open our eyes and see what the artist put into a picture, the pathway to the Arts is opened.

(note by Ed. Perhaps these words by the late Steve Miller will tell you that history is art, be it family, county or area; that history is art whether depicted by color or words. Will you "open your eyes and tell us what you see." The article is taken from the World Archaeological Society Newsletter, edited by Ron Miller.)
