Minutes of March 10, 1979 Meeting

Meeting-Date-Time-Place-Invocation
The regular quarterly meeting of the WRVHS was held on March 10 at the Good Memorial College Center Cafeteria, School of the Ozarks, Point Lookout with President Lucille A. Brown convening the session at 1:20 P.M. Leonard Williams, Stone County Director, gave the invocation.

Greetings and Introductions
The president extended greetings to all and gave a welcome to new members and guests, who were introduced. Esther Beveridge was in charge of the attendance register which was signed by 76 persons.

Minutes-Treasurer’s Report
Minutes of the September were approved as printed. December meeting cancelled due to icy roads. A bank balance of $676.50 was reported. All bills paid.

Board Recommendation
A recommendation from the Board that chances on an afghan be sold to raise funds for the treasury. Recommendation adopted. President Brown crocheted and donated the afghan which will be awarded at the annual meeting.

Quarterly Report
Ruth Asher, Quarterly Editor, asked for an inflow of historical material for publication. It was also announced that a few changes can be expected in the Quarterly appearance in an effort to reduce printing costs since the society has been notified of a printing cost raise as of June 1st.

Nominations Report
A first reading of the Committee on Nominations was made by Chairman Esther Beveridge. Ruth Asher and Icy Curry were the other members of the committee.

Downing Street Report
A report of the Downing Street, Hollister project was given by Viola Hartman and the Secretary announced the names of those who are to appear on the program.

Program
Dr. Donald R. Holliday, Associate Professor of English, SMSU, spoke on "The Civil War in Ozark Folk Humor." Dr. Holliday native, was introduced by program chairman, William Wood.

Announcement
Annual meeting was announced for June 10.

Adjournment
Meeting adjourned 3:20 P.M.

ANNUAL MEETING-JUNE 10, 1979

The School of the Ozarks College Center Cafeteria

Come early and attend worship services at 11 A. M. at Williams Memorial Chapel on the campus or visit in the Cafeteria Lounge. Join others at dinner in the room reserved for us and get better acquainted. Cafeteria opens at 11:30 A.M.

MEETING AT 1:15 P.M.

Dr. Milton D. Rafferty, Professor of Geography and Geology at Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield, will be guest speaker. His topic will be "The Ozarks: Geographical Change in An American Backwoods Region."

Drawing for afghan, annual reports, election and installation of officers will complete the program. Support your society by your presence. See you there!
