Volume 6, Number 11 - Spring 1979

President's Message

How pleasant it is to reflect on the events of the past year and to recall the new friends I have made. I am proud of the accomplishments of the society. It was my pleasure to represent WRVHS at the annual meeting of the State Historical Society of Missouri at Columbia on September 30 and to participate in the Presentation of the Plaque at Hollister on March 31.

We have held our own on membership, losing about 50 members and gaining almost the same number of new ones. I hope all these new members, plus our many older friends', will continue their association with us and contribute articles of historic interest to our quarterly. There is a great heritage in our White River Valley and all must endeavor to preserve.

I wish to express my appreciation for the excellent cooperation I have had from the officers and members of WRVHS, who have given me loyal support, helpful advice and friendship.

I remind everyone that soon we’ll be beginning a new year. Since all memberships expire on June 30, so let’s plan for the future by building on the past. We welcome suggestions and urge all members to take an active part in making the coming year the best ever.

ANOTHER GIFT FOR THE TREASURY

A box of the book "English Village of the Ozarks" by Edith McCall, has been donated to our society by the author. These books have been given to be sold to add to the treasury. "English Village of the Ozarks" tells the story of Hollister and is a softcover, selling for $2.50. Mrs. McCall is a charter member of WRVHS and served as the first secretary. This term she has been serving as reporter.

We still have copies of "Son of Pioneers - Recollections of An Ozarks Lawyer" by the late Omer E. Brown for sale. Hard covers are $5.00 and paperbacks are $3.00.

Add 50 cents for postage and handling for each book and orders may be sent to: The White River Valley Historical Society, Box 565, Point Lookout, Missouri, 65726.

Also, these books will be for sale at the next meeting, June 10.
