Minutes of the September 11 Meeting

Meeting-Date-Time-Place
The regular quarterly meeting of the White River Valley Historical Society met in the Good Memorial College Center of The School of the Ozarks at 1:15 p.m. on September 11 with President Helen Fletcher presiding. Dr. Alice A. Nightingale gave the invocation.

Greetings & Introductions
Greetings were extended by the President and guests Mr. and Mrs. John Arnold of Springfield, Mrs. Jessie Schweppe of Hollister, and Mr. and Mrs. Chesley Pleake of Rio Linda, CA were introduced. Two new members present Mrs. Eleanor Goltz and Mrs. Verna Faye Ferguson were introduced. Mary Dean Mullinex was in charge of the attendance register which was signed by 18 members and 10 others.

Minutes
Minutes of the June 12 Annual Meeting were approved as read.

Correspondence
An invitation to the Missouri State Historical Society meeting to be held in Columbia on October 1, 1977, was read.

Treasurer’s Report
A bank balance of $557.16 was reported with the third issue of Volume 6 yet to be paid.

President’s Remarks
President Fletcher’s remarks placed emphasis on the need for new members and stressed the importance of contributions of historical material for the Quarterly.

Chairmen & Committees Announced
The following chairmen and committees were announced:
Library - Dr. Nightingale, Point Lookout, chairman; Mrs. George Van Buskirk, Hollister Mrs. Lee Brown, Kirbyville; and Mrs, Mullinex.
Museum - Ralph Lucas, Branson.
Publicity - Marvin Tong, Point Lookout.
Historic Sites - Elmo Ingenthron, Kirbyville.
Nominating - Kelly Edgington, Kimberling City, chairman; William Wood, Strafford: and Dr. O. Myking Mehus. Branson.

Revisions
A first reading of the revised Constitution and Bylaws was made.

Announcements
Mr. Ingenthron invited the group to view the paintings of Mr. Arnold that were on display in the west end of the cafeteria.

Townsend Godsey announced that after December 1st eight years of the newspaper columns of Mae Kennedy McCord will be placed in The School of the Ozarks Library Ozarkiana Room.

December 11 was announced as the next meeting date.

Following today’s meeting everyone is invited to attend a Senior Citizen’s Art Exhibit and reception in the Campbell Applied Arts Building.

Program
The program, presented in Cummings Auditorium, featured Mr. Ingenthron showing slides and narrating the last half of his book, The Land of Taney. Conversation followed.

Meeting adjourned 3:50 p.m.
