Minutes of the Winter Quarterly Meeting
March 8, 1981

Meeting-Date-Time-Place
On March 8, 1981, the regular quarterly meeting of The White River Valley Historical Society was held in the Good Memorial College Center Cafeteria at The School of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, MO. President Lucille A. Brown convened the meeting at 1:15 p.m. and gave the invocation.

Attendance
The president extended greetings and sixty members and guests introduced themselves.

Minutes
Minutes of the December 14 were approved as printed.

Correspondence
Correspondence included an invitation to attend the workshop on oral history by the Missouri Historical Society on March 14 in St. Louis. An announcement of the conference of the Missouri State Genealogical Association to be held August 15 in Columbia plus an invitation to join their association was read.

Treasurer’s Report
The Treasurer’s report stated a balance of $1707.42.

Editor’s Remarks
The Editor asked for a continuing inflow of material for publication and told of present and upcoming printing and postage costs concerning the quarterly. Two publications of other societies comparing formats and membership dues were shown.

New Business Dues Raise
The Executive Committee recommended that Annual Dues be raised to $8.00 beginning July 1. Motion to be voted on at the annual meeting.

Nominating Report
A first reading of the report of the Committee on Nominations was read. Election will follow second reading of the report at the annual meeting.

Museum Report
Ralph Lucas, Museum chairman, sent a report that he had purchased the May, 1934 issue of National Geographic Magazine for Ralph Foster Museum. Still needed are issues from 1888 through 1914.

Thanks for Indexing
The president thanked member Louise Rood for her comprehensive index of Volume 1 of the quarterly and thanked member Geraldine Wells for indexing "Experiences of a Walking Preacher" by J.W. Findley.

Program
Program chairman, Kathleen VanBuskirk, introduced R. Layne Morrill, who spoke on Notch. He told of many incidents in the life of his great grandfather, "Uncle Ike," while serving as Postmaster at Notch.

Announcement
Announcement of the Annual Meeting, June 14, which soon will be a 20th Anniversary celebration, was made.

Adjournment 2:30 p.m.
