From The Taney County Times. News items as published in this weekly newspaper, printed Kissee Mills, Missouri from November 1887 until moved to Forsyth in 1891. Date of paper preceeds the news items appearing in that issue. December 4, 1890
Mrs . Elizabeth McCLURE died on Friday last, at the residence of the Hon. W.L. PECK. She was about 95 years of age, a native of Kentucky, and had lived in Taney County for the last 46 years. Funeral on Saturday and remains laid to rest in the McCLURE graveyard. Mrs. McCLURE was the mother of Mrs. W. L. PECK and grandmother of Mr. James SULLINGER. She was a pioneer resident of Taney County.
December 18, 1890
The wife of Andy EVERSOL gave him a Christmas box on Tuesday night. It was a girl.
W. T. GORDON of Cameron, Missouri has started a handle factory near Branson. The factory has only been in operation about two weeks and already has orders for 600,000 handles, including pick handles for Aurora and an equal number for Denver, Colorado.
Mr. R. E. MORRIS of Bradleyville, was in Taney City and reports that the Normal School building in Bradleyville will be ready for occupation when the first term opens, February 2nd, 1891. The people in the vicinity donated money enough to erect a nice two story building and Prof. MORRIS believes that he will have 100 students when school begins. There will be a Primary, a Teacher’s and a Scientific department.
Louis WEIGHT vas married yesterday to Miss Malluda ROBERTSON. Mr. WRIGHT has rented a farm 3 miles below Bradleyville. He is a basket-maker by trade, and intends to make some this winter.

Mr. W. H. MANNING & family started for Howell County Tuesday, where he intends making his future home.

Mrs. P. P. PYEATTE was delivered of a fine boy, last Monday.

Dr. ROBERTSON of Forsyth was in Taney City Monday and informed us that he intends to leave Taney County in two or three weeks. His father, Dr. N.T.P. ROBERTSON of Hutchinson, Kansas, died on the 18th of December and our young friend feels his place at present should be beside his stricken mother. Dr. ROBERTSON of Hutchinson was 62 yrs. old, and a physician of high standing in central Kansas.
Miss Eliza CLARK has returned from Springfield to visit her parents.
Mr. Lee COOK has been appointed assistant teacher at the Helphrey School.
January 15, 1891
The Springfield United States Land District Office, released the news that there are approximately 486,000 acres of Public Domain Land still inviting the homeseekers of the more crowded sections of the Union to the fertile region of the Ozarks.
Mrs. Tom HAMMOND gave birth to a fine girl on the 6th last.
January 22, 1891
A Bill will be introduced during the present session of the Legislature asking for an appropriation of $5,000. for the purpose of erecting a county jail at Galena in Stone County. The old jail was destroyed by fire in 1888.
J. N. RAY has 100 bushels of seed oats for sale. Call early if you want to secure a supply. Price is 40ยข a bushel, cash, or young steers taken at cash prices. Residence, four miles north of Forsyth, on Swan Creek.
The Helphrey School is still crowded. Prof s. GROVE and COOK have plenty to do at an average of 75 each day.
Mr. J. R. WYATT’s infact son, Master Benjamin Harrison WYATT has been sick.

Preparations are being made for a boat bridge to span Beaver Creek near the new Schoolhouse. This has been needed for some time as there is not a bridge on Beaver below Rosse.

M. U. MERRICK has been appointed the Postmaster at Swan, Missouri.

February 5, 1891
A birthday party was given at the residence of Mr. J. E. CLARK on Taney City Ridge, last Thursday. It was attended by Rev. Mr. GOWER & wife, Mr. & Mrs. ROSE, and Mrs. A.P. GARRETT, Mrs. J.T. DICKENSON, Mr. R. C GROVE, Mr. J.M. SULLINGER & wife and several others whose names we did not learn. The day was the birthday of both Mr. J. CLARK and his son T. J. CLARK.
February 12, 1891
Mrs. Rosie CLARK, wife of T.J. CLARK of Taney City, died last Friday nite. On Thursday afternoon she had given birth to a daughter, but her condition was serious from the beginning. Drs . HENSLEE & JOHNSON attended, but did not anticipate a fatal termination . Mrs. CLARK was 22 years of age, and was married on the 30th of December 1889.
March 5, 1891
Elder Squire BLOWERS, well known in Taney County for his remarkable knowledge of the Scriptures, died at the residence of G. W. HAMMON in Polk Co., Missouri about 3 weeks ago.
George P. TAYLOR has commenced the manufacture of Bed Springs at Taney City. He will exchange springs of the best quality for old feathers and travel extensively throughout Taney County in order to see most of the people at their own homes. These Springs are of the latest pattern and cannot be excelled by anything sold in Springfield as regards quality. While the price is the lowest ever made on bed springs.
March 12, 1891
Messrs J.G. ADAMS and J.R. LANE have purchased the Drug Store at Taney City.
The Springfield Leader reports the following: Jasper N . REYNOLDS and Miss Rittie SULLENGER, both of Forsyth, were granted license to marry. Both are former residents of Taney City. Miss SULLENGER is a daughter of Mr. James SULLENGER of Taney City.
Mrs. William CLARK of Conner, is quite sick with remittant fever.
Mr. George WILLIAMS has drawn plans and specifications for the bridge over Swan (Creek) and submitted then to the bridge committee.
Ben F. JOHNSON was in town yesterday, and had a Power of Attorney drawn up and sent to Tennessee where he has received an estate through the death of Benjamin JOHNSON in Loudoun County.
March 19, 1891
According to the Springfield Herald, four families from Fletcher County, Kentucky, passed through their city on the way to Taney County, "to try their luck at farming".
Mr. L.H. COOK says the Helphrey School came to an end Tuesday. Another term will begin on the 2nd Monday in April.
