The Past In Review . . . News items from the Taney County Republican, published in Forsyth, Missouri every Thursday by B.B. PRICE and S.J. WILLIAMS. Lawrence CARROLL was editor and the subscription price was $1.00 per year, in advance. The issue of November 28, 1895 was the first, and this paper is still being published today. The date of the paper precedes the news items appearing in that issue.

Jan. 23, 1896 -- Swan Items -- DIED, Jan. 4, 1896, Mrs. Sarah BURKHART, born in Virginia and was a resident of Taney County for the last 29 years. She was buried in the Peace Cemetery with the Rev. PEACE officiating. One son, Thomas BURKHART of Swan survives.
Wilson COOK reports an increase in his family in the shape of a he person.
Feb. 6, 1896 -- Mr. James WYATT, a prominent Republican of Jasper township, was in Forsyth Saturday.
Mrs. W.H. JOHNSON presented her husband with a fine boy on January 30th, and her mother, Mrs. J.M. WOOD of Springfield, is down for a visit.
The body of William SLAYDON, of Cedar Creek township, was found in the woods, half a mile from his house Friday evening. Mr. SLAYDON had gone after a load of wood that morning and did not return. Dr. McCURRY of Protem made the postmortem examination and advised that Mr. SLAYDON had died of heart disease. He was about 60 years of age.
Mr. William WOODS of Swan, has been visiting Kirbyville. He is a brother-in-law of Mrs. Polly HALL.
Johnson School District News -- Ira ROBERTS was baptized in Caney Creek last Sunday by R .B. STAFFORD, though the weather was cold and chilly.
Mr. ROBERTS sold 30 head of hogs on the first of Feb. at 3ยข per pound.
The roads are below par -- Farmers get your plows ready to scratch gravel.
John DUREA, of Nodaway County, Missouri has taken a homestead northwest of here.
Feb. 6, 1896 - Messrs. BURGER & BAKER, our sawmill firm, have a large contract for finishing railroad lumber.
John CLARK has returned from Arkansas bringing with him a herd of 58 head of cattle.

A protracted meeting in Taneyville commences at the Ray Schoolhouse next Friday night, by Rev. KERNS & Elder SPITZER, which will hold several days.
Feb. 13, 1896 - Forsyth now has a good church choir, embracing the following members; Mrs. W.M. WADE, Mrs. J. A. TOLERTON, Miss Laura JOHNSON and the Messrs John H. PARRISH, W.J. HULL, C.H. GROOM, J.C. JOHNSON, Jr., and Zell TRUMAN. Mrs. W.B. SIMONS acts as instructress. The choir is un-denominational and adds a most desirable feature to the services in our handsome little church.
Taney City - "I would like to make a proposition to the people of this place in regard to fencing in the school building for which proceeds of the box supper, to be held the 21st, are to be expended. I think it would be better to use the proceeds toward fencing in the graveyard and let the fencing in of the schoolhouse wait till we have a good fence around the cemetery, which is more likely to be damaged by stock."
Johnson School District - Born to Mr. and Mrs. C.W. JOHNSON, on the 9th of February, a girl weighing 8 pounds.

Feb. 13, 1896- Johnson School District Born to Mr & Mrs Thomas SILSBY, a girl.
Born to Mr & Mrs W.R. STUART, a girl, W.R. wanted a boy, but such is life.
Feb. 20, 1896 - Mrs. Blanch BUNCH, arrived home last Saturday from a visit with her sister Mrs. Ella LAMBERSON at Isabella, Missouri.
Feb. 27, 1896 - Mrs. J.H. NAGEL presented her husband with an 11 pound girl on Saturday. Mother and child are getting along nicely and Henry is proud.
The Hilsabeck Hotel has been receiving many improvements of late in the way of fresh paint, new paperhanging and new furniture. Mrs. HILSABECK is now ready to do justice to the influx of guests that Spring always brings.
At the box supper here on March 7th, the boxes will be sold by shadows, instead of numbers. This innovation ought to draw a crowd. If you guess right you will get your own girl’s box. Study her shape for the next week, and back your judgement with your money.
CIRCUIT COURT--Petition for Divorce. William H. WELLS, Plaintiff vs Rose A. WELLS, Defendant, not of the state of Missouri. Plaintiff commenced suit against her in this court, the object of which is to obtain a divorce from the bonds of matrimony.

CIRCUIT COURT--Martha T. STOCKSTILL, Plaintiff vs William S. STOCKSTILL, Defendant. Plaintiff has commenced suit to dissolve the bonds of matrimony.
Mar. 5, 1896 - Miss Rosetta PICKETT, youngest daughter of the Rev. D.H. PICKETT of Kirbyville, is in critical condition with spinal meningitis.
Kissee Mills News - Mrs. Mary JACKSON, wife of S.J. JACKSON, died of pneumonia on February 2nd. She leaves a husband and three little children.
Mar 12, 1896 - Mr. Jesse KINYON, who lives on Swan, about five miles north of Forsyth, lost his barn to fire on Tuesday night. Two horses, a wagon, two cows, 200 bushels of corn and a considerable quantity of hay were lost. Origin of fire unknown.
Legal Advertisement - Action for partition of Real Estate - Dora PLEAK and George W. PLEAK, her husband, Alma SNAPP by her guardian, Wm. M BUNCH vs John M. HAGGARD, N. Waldo HAGGARD, Mary E. PLEAK and John S. BLEAK, her husband, Amanda CASEY and Wm. L. CASEY, her husband.
Accidental death of Robert I. PARRISH, The well known and popular ferryman, undertook to put Mr. H.W. PAULIN across White River in a skiff or canoe. Midway in the stream Mr. PARRISH was seized with sudden illness and fell into the river and drowned before help could arrive. He was born July 17, 1856 and died March 5, 1896, leaving a widow and four children, his father, brothers and other relatives. He was given a Masonic Funeral by Forsyth Lodge #453 A .F. & A .M.
Swan News - Marion JOHNSON, Ed DIPLEY and Dora REED have gone to the Choctaw Nation to look for some of the stray dollars of our dads.
Mar 19, 1896 -- Mr. Steuben PLEAKE, brother of Charles PLEAKE, is now living on the BARCHMAN place.
Professor A .J. BRAZEAL went to Cedar Creek last Friday to assist his uncle, G.W. VANZANDT, to open up his new stock of goods and arrange them.
Johnson School District - Mr & Mrs Andy JACKSON have taken Mr Sam JACKSON’s three little children to care for. (Mrs. JACKSON died Feb. 2nd.)
