President's Message

On June 23, my wife and I were visiting with Edith and Digby West of Berryville, Arkansas and were privileged to be their guests at the monthly meeting of the Carroll County Historical Society. It was a lively, interesting session at which we learned numerous facts of that society’s history, progress and future aims. As an added plus we had the pleasure of hearing a talk by our own society member, Douglas Mahnkey.

It was extremely gratifying to me to see the strong interest in our part of the Ozarks shown by the people there. I want to thank President Jim Lair and all the members of that organization for such a pleasant and interesting evening.

Each time I visit somewhere I find a wealth of information and often, right at my own doorstep, learn more about the history of the Ozark region. I’m sure that other members are experiencing the same thing and I urge them to share those experiences with the rest of us. Write about your "finds" and send the story to our editor for publication for the benefit of members and readers of the White River Valley Historical Society quarterly.

I am very proud to be a member of this society and believe that by all of us working together, contributing our knowledge, we can continue this important work.

Fred Hartman
