In 196$,, th~ Ozarkiana Rooni was estabished in Lyons Memorial Library at The chool of the Ozarks to ho~ise, preserve and ake available to researchers materials on the istory of the Ozarks and of The School of th* zarks.
Today, the Ozarkiana Collection includes variety of materials relating to the School d to the history of the social and cultural evelopnient of the Ozark Mountain area. It ontains the following special collections and aterial:
The Ozarks Collection contains extensive des of paper docunient.~, copies of articles, hotographs, taped programs made by May ennedy McCord for her KWTO radio rogram and albums of her "Hillbilly eartheats" newspaper column. Included so are over 300 titles of books on the history nd development of the Ozarks, county istories, cemetery records, books written by arold Bell Wright, Vance Randolph, and an npublished autobiography by Rose ONeill. e collection includes microfilms of early ewspapers and of the Missouri Synod of the esbyterian Church.
The Vance Randolph Photograph Collec
tion is important to the study of the Ozarks area. The black and white photographs were taken and captioned by Mr Randolph. This is a rare colle0tion and requires permission for use.
The Rose ONeill Collection consists pri~ niarily of original letters written in her own hand by Rose to Vance Randolph. In addition, there are books by Rose, photos, clip- pings and papers pertaining to Rose, Ben- niebrook,, Kewpiesta, etc.
Recently acquired is the Godsey Coliec tio of paper~, photographs, manuscnpts, notes ~nd tape recorded interviews with alumni and administrators of the School and with~ other Ozarkers. The collection was donated by Helen and Townsend Godseywho have written about and documented with photographs the places, history and people of the Ozarks. Their books include, These Were the Last, a photo essay of old-time Ozarkers and Flight of the Phoenfr, a history of The School of the Ozarks.
The Ozarkiana *~oom is open to researchers. The material in the collection is available for use in the library.
