Volume 1, Number 12
The Greene County Historical Society recently dedicated an historical marker commemorating the public life of John Smith Phelps who served as a representative in Congress, commanded the Phelps Regiment during the Civil War and was military governor of Arkansas. The marker is located in Phelps Grove Park, Springfield, Mo.
Mrs. Elsa Vaught informs us that about September 30 a Centennial marker for 'old' Carrollton, Ark., will be placed near highway 68 in Carroll County. The inscription gives a brief history of the former county seat which was settled in 1833 and suffered heavily during skirmishes there in 1863 and 1864. Coy Logan heads the marker committee, assisted by O. Klute Braswell and James Bell.
We congratulate our neighbors to the north and to the south for the fine work their historical markers committees are doing.
