Highlight of the March 13 meeting was the reading of the essays by the winners by the Society’s Historical Essay 1983 contest. They were:
1st -Karen Pridgen, Ash Grove High School - "Springfield Newspapers in the Making"
2nd Rhonda Turner, Springfield’s Glendale High School - "Turner’s Missouri"
3rd Merrian Copeland, Glendale High School - "My Grandfather" (Merrian’s grandfather was in the audience.)
Material used in these writings were researched and documented making them authentic history.
Featured speaker was Paul Johns of Nixa, curator of the Christian County Museum at Ozark. His program was a narration and slide presentation on the history of Christian County.
