A CATAMOUNT SPRANG ON HIM
By S. C. Turnbo

In recounting incidents of the long ago in Boone County, Ark., Mr. Billy (W. A.) Eoff said that on a certain occasion while a man of the name of Penaltine Porter was traveling along a road afoot and carrying his rifle a catamount sprang from a stooping white oak tree that leaned over the road and lit on his shoulders and knocked the gun out of his hands and the weight of the animal came near knocking him down. A fight was on at once. The cat bit and scratched the man seriously before he finally killed it with his clenched hands. The animal had leaped from about 10 feet above the ground.

"This occurred five miles southeast of Bellfonte," said Mr. Eoff.
