Library Essay Contest Entry

Bob Nelson

As a busy young professional on the go, I don't always have time to browse around the library to see what newest releases might tempt my eyes. That's why two of my favorite things about the Springfield-Greene County Library District include easy drive-up locations and the new downtown Springfield branch in Park Central Square.

Living only a short two-minute drive from the Library Station, I love browsing the site for the latest book and CD titles. With the ease of just a few clicks of the mouse, I'm able to login with my library card number and reserve the items I want in my account. When the materials become available, the system then sends a handy reminder for pick-up and does the same when they need to make their return. Quicker than you can order a Venti Mocha, I have my music and reads on the go through one of the Library's four drive-through locations.

I'm also a big fan of the new Park Central Branch. Finding myself downtown for lunch meetings or after-hour meet ups after work quite regularly, I'm able to get in and out of the location through a quick self-checkout stand. The location has chic décor and constant activity, which also makes it the perfect spot to sit for a moment and read one of its countless periodicals, sip a drink from the adjacent Coffee Ethic or people watch through its expansive floor-to-ceiling windows.

The Library District helps me stay on the go.
