Check Out Redesigned Local History Web Page

July 9, 2010 — The library’s Local History and Genealogy Web site is one of the most-visited places on the thelibrary.org. Now it offers even more for visitors after a recent redesign.

The site contains all of the familiar content that patrons like, and we’ve added some new content and navigation features. The site is still at thelibrary.org, then click on the header “Local History.”

Here are some of the notable changes you’ll find, according to Web Manager Nancy Eike:

  • The Library’s digitized collections (Frisco, Turnbo, etc…) are now promoted in a revolving box, or “fader,” in the top right-hand column of the Local History home page. You can browse the collections by clicking on the fader, or link to a page listing all of the collections. New icons have also been created for many of the collections.
  • The right-hand column also has links to resources for online research. Links go to the Genealogy and Missouri and Ozarks Research topics; to FAQs and to Research Guides including genealogy forms that users can fill out and save on their computers.
  • Programs of interest to local history and genealogical researchers are listed at the bottom, right-hand column.
  • You can read about the physical Local History and Genealogy Department at the Library Center and see the new Plan Your Visit page. It contains a link to a map to the Library Center, driving directions and other tips for visitors planning a trip to the department.
