Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale October 19-24

October 6, 2010 — The giant Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale returns with three tractor-trailer loads of bargain-priced books, CDs and DVDs from Tuesday, October 19, through Sunday, October 24 at Remington’s, 1655 W. Republic Road, in Springfield.

Hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, October 19, through October 23, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, October 24.

The Friends Night members-only preview sale is 5-8 p.m. Monday, October 18. Members should make sure their dues are paid in advance.

The event is possible through donations of used items from the community and the Library District. Books and other materials are available in a variety of genres for children, teens and adults, and at bargain prices. Children’s books are priced 50 cents or less, adult and young adult books are $1 or less, most audiovisual materials are $1, and better books are individually priced.

Friends of the Library is the volunteer organization that supports the Springfield-Greene County Library District. Sale proceeds benefit the 10 branches and bookmobile, and fund summer reading programs, early literacy projects and library programs throughout the year. Most recently, the Friends donated $267,000 to buy a new bookmobile and revitalize the Ash Grove Branch Library.

The Friends of the Library was just named Outstanding Philanthropic Organization of 2010 by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Ozark Region Chapter.
