Friends of the Library Surpasses $100,000 in Spring Book Sale
May 2, 2011 —
The Springfield-Greene County Friends of the Library did it again – achieving more than $100,000 in sales during its 2011 Spring Book Sale April 26 through May 1 at Remington’s in Springfield.
The Friends took in $102,068.20 in sales of books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks and more during the spring sale. It’s the fifth consecutive sale in which the Friends surpassed $100,000 in sales. The fall 2010 sale hit the record-high of $108,379.38.
Proceeds from the annual spring and fall sales benefit the 10 branches and bookmobile services of the Springfield-Greene County Library District. In the past, Friends grants have funded live music programs at various branches, living history performances, books for preschoolers, and in 2010 a major grant paid to refurbish the Ash Grove Branch Library and purchased a new bookmobile. The “Mobile Library” is expected to be delivered in mid-May.
