Explore the Outdoors in the Ozarks at the Library Station

October 3, 2011 — Explore Outdoors in the Ozarks at the Library Station  

One of the joys of living in the Ozarks is the many outdoor activities you can experience throughout the year. Visit the Library Station during this all-weekend event devoted to the Ozarks outdoors and connect with experts, learn new skills or brush up on old ones. These programs are designed for all ages and experience levels – novice or expert. Events are scheduled 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, and from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 23.

Dutch Oven Cooking Demo
Saturday, October 22, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for all ages. Gather around the fire to see an on-site demonstration of techniques and tips for how to make delicious meals using a Dutch oven and enjoy some free samples.

Camp-Out Storytime
Saturday, October 22, 11 a.m. to noon for grades K-5 in the Story Hour Room. Gather around the campfire and enjoy a special camp-out storytime with camping stories, songs and snacks. We'll also make a cool survival craft to take home.

Enjoy the Outdoors
Saturday, October 22, noon to 1 p.m. for all ages in the Frisco Room. Learn tips and skills from local Boy Scouts leaders to help you connect with and enjoy the Ozarks outdoors.

Tips and Tricks
Saturday, October 22, 1 to 3:30 p.m. for adults in the Santa Fe Room. Learn great tips for enjoying the outdoors from local experts at the Springfield-Greene County Park Board.
• 1-1:30 p.m. - Camping
• 2-2:30 p.m. - Caving
• 3-3:30 p.m. - Geocaching

Fly Fishing
Saturday, October 22, 4 to 5 p.m. for adults in the Frisco Room. Kim Schultz from the Federation of Fly Fishers will demonstrate fly fishing techniques and discuss year-round fishing opportunities in the region. *This event includes an outdoor demonstration open to all ages.

Safety Sunday
Sunday, October 23, 2 to 4 p.m. for adults and teens age 16 and older in the Santa Fe Room. Learn safety tips for enjoying the outdoors from local experts at the Springfield-Greene County Park Board.
• 2-3 p.m. - Hunter Safety
• 3-4 p.m. - Fall & Winter Outdoor Safety

Outdoors in the Ozarks Film Series
Enjoy your favorite outdoorsy flicks on the big screen. For all ages in the Frisco Room.
Saturday, October 22
• 2 to 3:30 p.m. "The Great Outdoors," rated PG, starring Dan Aykroyd and John Candy.
• 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. "Wild Hogs," rated PG-13, starring Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence and John Travolta.
Sunday, October 23
• 2 to 3:30 p.m. for all ages in the Frisco Room. "Over the Hedge," rated PG, starring the voices of Bruce Willis, Garry Shandling and Steve Carell.
