Enjoy Free Holiday Concerts in December

December 2, 2011 — In the midst of your holiday shopping and running, every one on staff at the Library hopes you’ll take a breather to enjoy one or more of the holiday concerts planned this month. Consider it our gift to you!

Visitors of all ages are welcome to these free events, and registration is not necessary. For more information, call 417-616-0566.

  • Tuesday: Courthouse Chorale. This vocal ensemble of Greene County officials and employees will perform holiday favorites at 12:30 p.m. in the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library upstairs meeting room. Grab a drink or a snack at the first-floor Fog City Coffee kiosk and enjoy the midday show.
  • Dec. 11: Red Bridge Presents “A Special Holiday Concert.” The Friends of the Library is sponsoring this event at 2 p.m. in the Library Center auditorium. This popular group returns to present a special concert of holiday favorites with their usual high energy and great harmony.
  • Dec. 14: Holiday Horns. This popular Springfield Symphony Brass Quintet returns at 12:15-1 p.m. for a festive concert in the upstairs meeting room of the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library. (This is a time change from the Bookends program listing.) It’s sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Beverages and snacks will be provided, but feel free to bring a sack lunch or order from Fog City Coffee at the library.
  • Dec. 17: Holiday Concert with Wires N Wood. Join our sponsors, Friends of the Library, and staff as Wires N Wood performs holiday tunes in the bluegrass tradition at 2 p.m. in the Brentwood Branch Library. Enjoy warm drinks, good music and cookies during the concert, and then take the holiday spirit with you with a make 'n' take craft to decorate your home.

Save Dec. 12 for a date with Chef H.J. Schumer at the Library Center.

He’ll show us how to whip up stunning-but-easy hors d’oeuvres even when you’re pressed for time during “Hors D’oeuvres on the Fly” at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

The Price Cutter Taste Culinary Classroom chef will show you the ingredients, demonstrate how to pull them together, and let you feast on the finished product. Registration is required; call 882-0714.
