The 10 Tenets of Civility Photo Contest Feb. 1-24

January 23, 2012 — Children, teens and adults are invited to enter an original photograph or photo illustration for the 10 Tenets of Civility Photo Contest, which runs Feb. 1-24.

The subject of each black-and-white, 8x10 print should represent any one of the 10 Tenets of Civility adopted by the Springfield-Greene County Civility Project and more than 30 government agencies and private businesses. Participants may enter more than one photograph.

Top photos selected by the Civility Project Committee will be displayed March 2 at the Park Central Branch Library during a special program coinciding with First Friday Art Walk, and during 2012 at government offices and businesses that have adopted the 10 Tenets of Civility.

The contest is part of a series of programs planned in March and sponsored by the Springfield-Greene County Libraries, The Springfield-Greene County Civility Project and Community Foundation of the Ozarks. The series, “Building Common Ground: Discussions of Community, Civility & Compassion,” is funded through a grant from the American Library Association and the Fetzer Institute.

Contest guidelines and entry forms are available at the 10 branches and Mobile Library of the Springfield-Greene County Library District, or can be downloaded at thelibrary.org/documents/civility.pdf. Entries may be turned in with attached entry form to the checkout desk of any branch library. Deadline for submissions is Feb. 24.

The 10 Tenets of Civility are: Be Attentive, Acknowledge Others, Be Inclusive, Listen, Respect Other Views, Speak Out with Courage, Act with Compassion, Give and Accept Constructive Feedback, Treat Your Environment with Respect, and Be Accountable.
