Library Partnerships Work for Good of All

“Synergy” is a word that works hard for the Library. As a public trust that stretches every $1, we nurture partnerships with other organizations because together we have an effect greater than what we do individually.
A sample of upcoming events shows how we’re making synergy work for you and for the good of the Library.
- At 6:30 p.m. Monday, the Library and Missouri State University are featuring History Department professor Jeremy Neely, who will talk about his book, “The Border Between Them: Violence and Reconciliation on the Kansas-Missouri Line.” It’s in Room 101 of Meyer Library on the MSU campus; free parking in lots 19, 4 and 20. The event is part of a Library Civil War series provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association.
- At 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Library Center auditorium, the Cook’s Kettle of Victory Mission will prepare a free soup dinner, while six leaders of different faiths will discuss how their different traditions address poverty, hunger and other problems. This “Building Common Ground” event combines the Interfaith Alliance of the Ozarks, Community Foundation of the Ozarks and Cook’s Kettle. This and Thursday’s program are funded through the American Library Association and the Fetzer Institute. Reservations required by calling 882-0714.
- At 5 p.m. Thursday at the Moxie, the Rev. Mark Struckhoff of Council of Churches of the Ozarks will lead a discussion after a PBS documentary, “Forgiveness: A Time to Love and a Time to Hate.”
- Hammons Hall is donating free tickets to the March 30 performance of “The Color Purple” for a drawing at each of the 10 libraries and Mobile Library. Patrons can enter now through March 23 at the checkout desks. The new musical is based on the novel by Alice Walker.
- In another mutually beneficial partnership, Ruby Tuesday at 4121 S. National Ave., will donate 20 percent of all food/ drink purchases from 5-9 p.m. March 15 to the Library Foundation. It’s the company’s GiveBack program. The donation will help the Library’s popular Summer Reading Program, which drew 15,225 children and teens last summer.
