Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale Runs Oct. 23-28

October 16, 2012 — Lovers of bargain-priced books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks and more will find great buys during the much-anticipated, week-long Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale. The sale is open to the public from Monday, Oct. 23 through Sunday, Oct. 28 at Remington’s, 1655 W. Republic Road. And new this year: two free demonstrations on Wednesday and Saturday on how to “Trash the Books” to make gifts and crafts.

Sale hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, Oct. 23-26; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28. Saturday is Half-Price Day; Sunday is Bag Day, when everything a shopper can jam into a bag costs $1; or $5 for a sack from the better books section.

The sale kicks off again this year with the Friends Night Preview Sale, 5-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22. Friends of the Library members in good standing and those paying $5 at the door to join that night get first crack at the rows of children’s, teen and adult books, music, movies, puzzles and board games.

New this year:  “Trash the Books!” Friends member Becky Kheen will give two free demonstrations on how to turn an old book and old book pages into a new craft for the holidays, office or home. Sessions will be from 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Oct. 24, and noon-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in the lobby of Remington’s.

During the sale, children’s books are 50 cents or less; adult, young adult books and most audiovisual items are $1 or less; better books are priced at $2 and up.

What you will find: a variety of books on the St. Louis Cardinals; children's pop-up books, travel and culture across the United States; foreign language software and CDs; a first-edition of a Julia Child cookbook; a set of seven, red leather-bound Rudyard Kipling books; hundreds of vinyl record albums, five sets of encyclopedias, collectible books;   autographed books and the 1972 edition of Cosmopolitan featuring the first male centerfold – Burt Reynolds.

Proceeds from the sale go to support the services, free concerts and children’s and family programs offered throughout the Springfield-Greene County Library District.
