Friends of the Library Pledge $300,000 Toward Brentwood Branch Library Renovation

November 9, 2012 —  The effort to raise money for the Brentwood Branch Library renovation project is off to a great start, and the campaign hasn’t even begun. The Friends of the Library has committed the first, major gift toward the project, pledging $300,000, or $100,000 a year for three years.

The funds will come from the Friends spring and fall book sales proceeds, which before expenses totaled $247,301.86 from the two events in 2012.

“Once again, our hard-working Friends of the Library have stepped up to support the Library District,” said Executive Director Regina Cooper. “Their gift to the Brentwood campaign provides the initiative needed for a bright future for the Brentwood Branch.”

The library design and renovation project is estimated to cost about $2 million, and is expected to be funded through private gifts and a capital campaign conducted by the Springfield-Greene County Library Foundation.

The day after Thanksgiving would be a perfect time to sit down with a loved one and record a short remembrance or story. That’s what the producers of StoryCorps suggest on Nov. 23, the National Day of Listening. The Library, Drury University and Ozarks Public Radio KSMU have joined the effort.

Learn how to capture a great story at a free session by KSMU’s Jennifer Davidson at 1 p.m. Thursday (NOV 15) in the Library Center Story Hour Room. If you need help or equipment to record a story, come back to the Library Center from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Nov. 23 and staff will assist. Reservations are required; call 882-0714. For details call 616-0564 or 616-0566.
