Patrons Can Borrow More Movies, Audiobooks, Music with Hoopla

August 19, 2013 — A library card will get you even more free entertainment from the Springfield-Greene County Library District beginning Aug. 19. Patrons can now borrow more than 300,000 videos, audiobooks and music albums right from a smartphone, tablet or web browser. It’s free through a new, revolutionary library lending service called “Hoopla.”

Hoopla allows patrons to use their valid library card to electronically borrow movies, TV episodes, audiobooks and music albums, and access them from any compatible device. Using cloud computing, patrons can borrow titles using a home computer, begin watching on a tablet, and resume using a smartphone – anywhere there’s an Internet connection.

This easy-to-use digital lending platform is available to patrons with computers using Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari or FireFox Web browsers; tablets and smartphones (iOS 6 and Android 4.0).

Unlike other streaming audio and video services, patrons do not pay a monthly subscription fee, making Hoopla the first app of its kind.

Checkout periods:

  • Videos, 3 days (72 hours)
  • Music, 1 week
  • Audiobooks, 3 weeks
  • Checkout limits: 12 titles maximum per month, per person
  • No “holds” necessary; all content is always available
  • When your lending period expires, titles are automatically removed from your library, making late fees a thing of the past.

To get started: Go to thelibrary.org and click on “Hoopla.” Create an account with your library card number. Click “Browse,” find a title, click “Borrow” and watch or listen wherever you are.

Hoopla was designed and published by Midwest Tape, LLC. Midwest Tape has been a leader in library media service for over 25 years.
